12/2/2018 - 12/24/2018 - ADVENT SUNDAY

Advent Season is the beginning of the Christian Church Year. The word "advent" means "coming." Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas. It is a season of preparation for the coming Christ. The Liturgical Color is blue or purple, symbolizing royalty or dignity. The Symbols are 1) the Advent Wreath (an evergreen wreath with four candles and a central Christ (white) candle; each Sunday the number of candles lighted is increased by one and the Christ candle is lighted Christmas Eve/Day); and 2) the Jesse Tree, depicting the ancestors of Christ.

The A.M.E. Church observes seven seasons: Advent, Christmastide, Epiphany, Lent, Eastertide, Pentecost, and Kingdomtide.
